How to Organize Hair Accessories without Spending?

Over the years, Arya has accumulated quite a number of hair accessories. At first, I just put them in a drawer where I can easily access them. When her collection grew bigger. Thanks to all the donors! 🙂 We moved the ones that she always wear in a cute fish bowl. I also made a headband holder but I had to place it behind her closet door. Basically, all three containers were in separate places in the house.

This summer, I decided to put them all together in one place and made some more hair accessories’ holders. I also didn’t want to spend money in setting them up. So, I basically just used whatever was available in the house and of course inspiration from Pinterest. 🙂

I decided to display all the hair accessories in front of the mirror and made sure that it was not to high for Arya to have access to them. I also made a little bit of space in case I want to add more storage.

Ideally, pegs are great for holding hair ties and necklaces. But I don’t want to buy and I couldn’t wait to finish this project. So, I looked for a substitute. These push pins with hooks were perfect! I asked hubby to drill a small hole enough to give the pins a snug fit and Viola! You got the same effect and function.

Picture 4: Clips Galore.

Remember the clips from the fish bowl and the drawer? Yes, I took them out and place them in plain sight for easy access. Once again, I didn’t want to spend anything. So, I used an old children’s hanger and hot glued ribbons from the top of the hanger. Actually, I only glued the one in the middle since the ends have clips to hold the ribbons. I didn’t want to cut the ribbons so I just folded them and made sure that they are the same length.

Picture 6. The Headband holder up-close.

I made the headband holder last year out of an old oatmeal container. I will share how I did it in a different blog. I asked hubby again to screw it on the side of Arya’s dresser which left more room for more headband holders. 🙂

Picture 7: The extra cubbies.

I knew I have to make storage space for hairpins, her comb and all those other stuff. You know what I mean. I made my own version of a cubbyhole. Once again, I found a substitute and used extra Easter cups from last year. I almost used up my hooked push pins and I know that I will still need them. So, tacks came to the rescue. I didn’t want the hooks to protrude from the cups anyway. So, the tacks were perfect. You might ask where Arya was in all of these. She was the director and she had a lot of fun!

It took me one afternoon to do everything and I had fun with it too! Now, Arya chooses her own hair accessories and puts them back when she doesn’t use them anymore. It is really an amazing decluttering project which is really worth trying! Let me know what you think!
